Chicago Revival! Seedfolks by Paul Fleischman

Seedfolks is a site‑specific theatre show for all ages that brings Paul Fleischman’s beloved novel to life in Chicago’s community gardens. The story begins with one young girl planting a handful of seeds, an act that inspires her neighbors to transform a vacant lot into a vibrant shared garden. Staged outdoors in the very spaces the story celebrates, this production invites audiences to gather, listen, and imagine what grows when a community comes together.

This Chicago revival builds on a successful earlier iteration that toured community gardens in Phoenix, uniting an intergenerational ensemble of artists and reaching more than 170 community members. The new production will be created with Chicago artists, shaped by the histories and strengths of local neighborhoods, and presented in partnership with community gardens across the city.

Artists, donors, and neighbors alike are invited to be part of our growing story, where we believe a single seed, or a single act of care, can help a community flourish.

Auditions will be posted summer 2026 on The League of Chicago Theatres, Theatre in Chicago, and the Chicago Artist Coalition.
